Dr. Elizabeth Carstensen (pronounced CAR-sten-sen) is a board-certified Family Medicine Physician who is new to the Gardendale area. She provides general medical care to the whole family--from birth through geriatrics. She chose a career in Family Practice because she values having deep and ongoing relationships with her patients and believes providing the best medical care starts with knowing that person. Dr. Carstensen is particularly passionate about providing preventative healthcare, helping patients to access appropriate birth control options, and managing chronic diseases (such as diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, & asthma).  She is also skilled in procedures such as wart removal, wound closure, mole removal, and joint injections.

Dr. Carstensen grew up in Birmingham and knew she wanted to pursue a career in medicine from a young age. She attended Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. She received her Medical Doctorate from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and afterwards completed her training at her top choice for residency: the University of Virginia. Dr. Carstensen practiced in Atlanta before moving to Birmingham. She enjoys spending time reading & baking but spends most of her free time with her husband, sons, and beloved dog.
